Ο 850 EVO της Samsung πλησιάζει όλο και πιο κοντά στο επίσημο launch date του, που σύμφωνα με τις τελευταίες φήμες του Hermitage Akihabara θα γίνει τον Ιανουάριο του 2015. Οι ίδιες πληροφορίες μιλούν για χωρητικότητες 120, 250, 500, 750 και 1000GB με το form factor να κινείται στις στάνταρ 2.5 ίντσες και στο πάχος των 7mm, με τη διεπαφή να είναι SATA 6Gbps. Επιπρόσθετα, κάτι που ήδη ξέραμε, είναι ότι η Samsung θα χρησιμοποιήσει τις νέας γενιάς 3-bit V-NAND Flash μνήμες της σε συνδυασμό όμως με έναν "φρέσκο", in-house controller.

Παράλληλα, σε σχέση με τον 850 Pro, η Samsung θα ρίξει κι άλλο το κόστος ανά GB ενώ οι επιδόσεις του αναμένονται λίγο κάτω από αυτές του Pro μιας και στοχεύει προς την mainstream αγορά. το anand πάντως με έχει "περιγράψει" πλήρως μέσα σε 4-5 γραμμές (και τις επιλογές μου):

For the value segment, the key consideration is the price because these are typically users who don't push their systems to the limits and thus shouldn't pay a premium for a performance increase that is likely to be negligible for their usage. Our Light Workload suite highlights this pretty well because the difference between most drives is on the order of 10-20% and while a possible 10% increase in performance would be worth $5, $10 and maybe even $20 to some users, it's definitely not worth the ~$50 Samsung is charging for the 850 EVO over Crucial's MX100 and SanDisk's Ultra II for example.

Καλός, αλλά όσο καλός και να είναι SSD με TLC NAND δεν παίρνω... Μακάρι να βγώ ψέφτης, αλλά πιστεύω ότι θα σκάσει κάποια στιγμή το θέμα της μικρής διάρκειας ζωής των TLC...
