ConnorMateo
In October 1985, Kiss FM became the first legal radio station in the UK to play dance music. It was originally a pirate radio station, but later purchased by Emmis Communications. Today, it is broadcast on a national DAB multiplex. Listeners can also find information on the station's website. Kiss-FM's program director, Barry Mayo, was a young African-American who experimented with hip-hop on the station. This proved that hip-hop could be a viable format for radio. However, the station's ratings took a dive when he began going off script. He played a lot of hip-hop tracks back to back.
